A swing gate is a great option for homes where there is plenty of room for the gates to swing open into the property.
In comparison to sliding gates, swing gates are more economical to install if the conditions can be met. They often look more aesthetically attractive than sliding gates and open easier. Installation and servicing of an electric automated swing gate should be completed by a trained professional. The gate installation period will be different depending on the type of opener, gate and location.
The gate opener is the device which opens and closes the gate. The two main types of opener are hydraulic and electromechanical. Both types of opener can be underground openers, arm openers or worm driven. These openers are designed for use on both sliding and swing gates.
Automatic gates usually use the mains as a power supply to power their opening. Another option is to install solar panels to power low voltage automatic gates. This ensures that your gates will continue to work during a power cut.
Swing Gate Installation
The size of the opening or driveway will decide the type of gate that you choose. Typically, you can choose between a single swing gate or a double gate option. The most economical option would be to choose a single gate. However, this type of gate would be unsuitable for openings wider than 12 feet as it becomes too taxing on the single motor.
Most properties will allow the swing gates to open inwards which is the most desirable choice. But there are situations where this is not possible. It may free up space inside your driveway for extra parking if you can open the gate outwards. But you will need to consider whether you are obstructing public footpaths or roads.
Electric Automatic Gate Types
There are four common types of electric gate operators to choose from. The four types are:

- barrier arm operators
- swing gates
- sliding operators
The operators can be programmed to be used by a wireless transmitter or with a manual device. Some people choose to use solar power to provide electricity to their gate, or you could install a battery backup in case of a power failure.
